Set up in 1900, this is one of the finest of all the magnificent gardens in the Rhins and probably the most well known, due to it's collection of tropical plants. Logan Botanic Gardens also includes a walled garden, woodland walks, a bog garden, discovery centre, cafe and botanical shop. You can also take in the stunning views of the surrounding area from the gardens.

Under New Management since 2016. The world's oldest marine life centre. Open 7 days a week, 10am-5pm. Victorian fish pond originally used as a larder for the local estate but now a top visitor attraction.

Centred around Logan House, as the name suggests, this 2 acre garden dates from the 1870s and, although separate from the Botanic Gardens, also boasts plants gathered from across the planet. Woodland walk. The gardens had overgrown but were restored to their former glory in 2001.

Luce Sands (Beaches & Rocky Shores, Walks)

Luce Sands is a gloriously long stretch of sandy beaches. The sands are most accessible from Sandhead where you can walk along the shore for 3 miles at low tide. There is a large parking area with picnic tables.

Marian Tower (Castles & Historic Sites)

Heading north from Leswalt on the B798 is a 19th century white monument called Marian Tower. The tower may have been a memorial to a local girl killed by a bull but other reports claim it was Sir John Ross (a local arctic explorer) who built it in tribute to one of his family. Whatever the reason for its construction, it remains a family landmark in the North Rhins.

Port Mora & Port Kale (Beaches & Rocky Shores, Walks)

Follow the Southern Upland way from Portpatrick and you will come across two bays. The first, Port Mora is a sandy beach with interesting caves. The second, Port Kale is a pebbly, rocky beach that meets up with Dunskey Glen.
